Saxophone and Flute Lessons
I provide private lessons on saxophone and flute for beginner to intermediate players.
The lessons are weekly and offered as 30, 45 or 60-minute classes. Lessons are currently being offered on Zoom.
As someone who has studied and performed in the jazz idiom on saxophone, I am most qualified to help those who want to explore this kind of musical experience.
I have both a classical and jazz background on flute and can help beginner to intermediate students get familiar with the instrument and recommend repertoire in either genre to meet their musical goals.
Curriculum
I provide a curriculum that begins with the basics of breathing, tone, technique, and melody. As these elements come together, we can move on to ear training and melodic improvisation.
I have had the pleasure and privilege to study with some of Canada's finest jazz saxophone players, such as Mark Promane, Pat LaBarbera, Kirk MacDonald, and Don Palmer. As a "doubler" on flute, I also studied for 2 years with Virginia Markson, one of Canada's former Principal Flautists for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
The methodologies that I learned from these musicians culminate in my teaching methods and style.
